How to remove a URL from Google search results
The Removals tool in Search Console hides a URL from Google results quickly, but only temporarily. Making it permanent needs a change on the page itself.
Step by step
- 1Go to Indexing → Removals and click New request.
- 2Choose "Temporarily remove URL", paste the URL, and pick either that exact URL or every URL with that prefix.
- 3Submit. The URL is usually hidden within a day, for about six months.
- 4Within that time, make it permanent: delete the page (404/410), add a noindex tag, or put it behind a login.
Good to know
- Don't block the URL in robots.txt if you use noindex: Google must crawl it to see the noindex.
- "Clear cached URL" removes only the snippet and cache until Google recrawls.
- For pages on sites you don't own, use Google's "Refresh outdated content" tool instead.
