How to compare two date ranges in Google Search Console
Comparing periods is the fastest way to see what grew and what dropped: which queries and pages gained or lost clicks.
Step by step
- 1In Performance → Search results, click the date filter at the top.
- 2Open the Compare tab.
- 3Pick a preset (for example "Compare last 28 days to previous period" or "year over year") or set custom ranges.
- 4Click Apply, then sort the Queries or Pages table by the difference column to see the biggest winners and losers.
Good to know
- Compare equal-length periods with the same weekdays to avoid weekly noise.
- Year-over-year comparisons remove seasonality.
- Search Console keeps 16 months of data, so year-over-year works only for the last ~4 months.
- Export the comparison and upload it to our free action list to find decaying pages automatically.
