Search Console regex generator
Build the filters you actually use in Performance → Query / Page → Custom (regex). Search Console uses RE2 syntax; everything here is RE2-safe.
Regex
Ready-to-paste Search Console regex
- Questions (English):
^(who|what|when|where|why|how|which|can|does|is|are|should)\b - Questions (Spanish):
^(qué|que|cómo|como|cuándo|cuando|dónde|donde|por qué|cuál|cual|quién|cuánto|cuanto)\b - Five words or more:
^(\S+\s+){4,}\S+$ - Blog posts only (page filter):
/blog/
Why exclude brand queries?
Brand searches have very high CTR and say nothing about how well your content competes. Filtering them out ("Doesn't match regex") shows the real non-brand performance, which is what SEO work actually moves. Include common misspellings and the brand written with and without spaces.
RE2 gotchas in Search Console
- No lookaheads or backreferences (
(?=…),\1): use "Doesn't match regex" instead of negative lookaheads. - Matching is case-sensitive for pages but queries are lowercase anyway; add
(?i)at the start to be safe. - A regex matches anywhere unless you anchor it with
^and$.
