How to find pages losing traffic in Google Search Console
Content decay is gradual, so it is easy to miss. A period comparison in Search Console shows exactly which pages are losing clicks and which queries explain it.
Step by step
- 1Open Performance → Search results and set the date to Compare → last 28 days vs previous period (or year over year to rule out seasonality).
- 2Go to the Pages tab and sort by the clicks difference, smallest first.
- 3Click a page that dropped, then open the Queries tab: the queries that lost clicks or position show what to update.
- 4Refresh the page around those queries: update facts, cover what competitors cover, improve the title.
Good to know
- A page that lost nearly everything is often an expired event or product: redirect it instead of refreshing it.
- Check year over year before acting: some drops are seasonal.
- Our free action list does this automatically from a compare-mode export.
