“Blocked due to other 4xx issue”: meaning and how to fix it
Depends on the pageWhat it means
The server answered with a 4xx code other than 401, 403 or 404: for example 410 Gone, 429 Too Many Requests or 400 Bad Request.
Is it a problem?
Depends on the code: 410 for removed pages is correct; 429 means you are throttling Google.
Common causes
- 410 for intentionally removed content
- 429 rate limiting by the server, CDN or bot protection
- Malformed URLs producing 400
How to fix it
- Relax rate limits for verified Googlebot
- Fix or stop linking malformed URLs
- Leave intentional 410s as they are
How to check the fix
Use URL Inspection → Test live URL to see the exact status code.
