“Discovered – currently not indexed”: meaning and how to fix it
Depends on the pageWhat it means
Google knows the URL exists (from a link or your sitemap) but hasn't crawled it yet. It usually postponed the crawl because it expected the site to be overloaded, or because it didn't think the page was worth crawling yet.
Is it a problem?
A few URLs here is normal. Thousands, or important pages that stay here for weeks, mean Google isn't prioritising your site.
Common causes
- Too many low-value URLs (filters, tags, parameters) competing for crawl budget
- Weak internal linking: the page is only reachable from the sitemap
- Slow server responses, so Google crawls less
- A new site or section with little authority yet
How to fix it
- Link to the page from relevant, already-indexed pages
- Remove or noindex thin and duplicate URLs so Google spends its crawl on what matters
- Improve server response time
- Keep the sitemap limited to canonical, indexable URLs
- Use URL Inspection → Request indexing for the few pages that really matter
How to check the fix
After fixing, click "Validate fix" in the Page indexing report. Google re-checks the URLs over the following days.
